Who we are

Grace Bible Church exists to glorify God and glory in Christ through God-honouring services, Christ-like lives, fervent evangelism and loving fellowship.

Our church is independent in its governance, but we do enjoy fellowship with numerous other like-minded evangelical churches.

As to our core belief system, we hold to the framework generally referred to as Reformed Baptist. This framework has a prominent and influential place in the history of the church. Past men of renown who exemplify this framework include John Bunyan (author of Pilgrim’s Progress), William Carey (founder of modern missions) and Charles Spurgeon. Some prominent men who hold this framework today include Don Carson, John Piper, John MacArthur, Al Mohler, Mark Dever and James White.

While there are differences among Reformed Baptists, we all share some common distinctives.

We are Reformed in that we all hold to the sovereignty and supremacy of God in all things. What has historically framed the Reformation is holding to what are known as the 5 Solas:

  • Sola ScripturaScripture Alone is the final, infallible source of authority for all doctrinal and practical truth.
  • Solo ChristoChrist Alone is the source of our salvation.
  • Sola GratiaGrace Alone is how God bestows salvation—as His gift to utterly undeserving rebels.
  • Sola Fide—Faith Alone is the means by which we receive God’s gift of salvation, not by our works.
  • Soli Deo GloriaThe Glory of God Alone is the motive in salvation, so that none can boast.

We are Baptistic because we all hold that the symbolic ordinance of baptism is only for those who have personally responded to the gospel in faith.

We do not require Christians to be either Reformed or Baptistic to fellowship with us. But we desire for all who choose to fellowship with us to understand that these are the distinctives upheld here.

How We Live

We believe that it is not enough simply to have correct doctrine! True salvation begins an ongoing transformation of heart and mind such that we endeavour to live every aspect of our lives to the glory of God, in the likeness of Christ, by the power of the Holy Spirit. It is not just the content of our faith, but also the conduct of our faith that matters to God. Therefore, we must strive to live out these beliefs in a gracious and godly manner.
